Kristen Stewart: Accepts mistake in choice of words
It’s not surprising at all that movie stars would comment without knowing anything about the subject, we are quite used to it, but what is surprising is that Kristen Stewart came up in front of a packed press and apologized for her earlier remarks. Stewart is not known for her subtlety rather she is known to speak her mind in exact words that she uses to think them.
This whole affair started quite a few days back when during another interview Stewart expressed her feelings about the ‘all-that-you-do-is-news’ attitude of the paparazzi strongly. She had termed her invasion of privacy similar to someone being raped and this had stirred a hornet’s nest of protestations all over, especially from the media.
It all continued with her complain about being hounded all the time by paparazzi as she never thought her life would be like this and she really needs time to get adjusted to it. This continuous hounding to make public all that is private in her life is what she had termed as equal to being raped. But this time she really expressed her sorrow and asked for apology due to her wrong choice of wards, she wondered that she could have used the word ‘violated’ instead.
The controversy nearly got out of hand as no one expected her to be so indifferent and insensitive to the whole idea of being raped, more so when she herself had played the part of a raped girl in her 2004 movie ‘Speak’.
Not long after the interview appeared, Katherine Hull, a spokesperson for Rape and Incest National Network (RAINN), publicly deriding Stewart about her poor choice of words. Stewart has done public service announcements for RAINN and Security on Campus since playing a rape victim in the film.
It’s all very commendable that Stewart doesn’t hold back anything and possess a strong will, but she has to realize that it is only her who has to take the responsibility of the words coming out of her mouth and she needs to be a bit more careful in choosing metaphors from now on.
